Our family of 6 recently stayed at Herbie's Hideaway for 3 nights. We did not want to go home! We were looking to get away from it all, and that is exactly what Herbie's Hideaway gives you!
As soon as we arrived, all of our stress melted away. The sounds of the creek are so relaxing... the only thing missing was a hammock! ;o) The creek is very accessible... no steep hike to get to it! We opened all of the windows and enjoyed the sounds of the rushing creek from almost every room in the house!
There was no TV... Yeah! There was so much to do... books to read, cards, board games AND outdoor games to play, and puzzles to put together. They even had crayons, beginner reader books, etc... for the younger ones! We hiked, played in the creek, and visited Rickett's Glen State Park. The scenery is beautiful. We went swimming in the lake on top of the mountain at Rickett's Glen. We played on the beach, soaked in the sunshine... Can we stay here forever? ;o) We had more to do than there was time for!
We thoroughly enjoyed cooking over an open campfire every night. There is a grill too. We loved eating out on the picnic table and unwinding on the deck... all it needed was a hot tub! ;o)
Rich and Marie are so nice, friendly, and accommodating. You can't ask for better people! Super!
When we come back, our biggest need for a longer stay, will be a washer/dryer. After all, there are 6 of us! ;o)
We highly recommend Hebie's Hideaway. There's so much to do outside of Herbie's too. We simply did not have enough time to do it all. This is a great location to get away to, and also to enjoy the many various activities nearby. There is an amusement park, etc... The price, location, and hospitality is unbeatable!

Our extended family wanted to spend a long weekend hiking the falls at Rickett's Glen. It is difficult to rent one of the cabins in the park so I looked on the web and found Herbie's Hideaway. We rented sight unseen and were delighted with what we got. My wife was thrilled with how clean it was and our children loved making a fire(wood included) at night. The setting is tranquail and only 10 minutes from the park. Thanks Marie!

If you want a place that is away from the crowds even the camping crowd that stay at Ricketts Glenn State Park- Herbies Hideaway is the place for you and your family. We just reurned from a fantastic week and will be planning our next vacation - next year again at HHaway. Plain and simple- its a great find and would highly recommend the place for any special getaway.
We have stayed at Ricketts Glenn State Park at the cabins for the past several years and that always worked out fine but the big difference in staying at HHaway is that you have a 4 bedroom - big kitchen and family room with a deck that overlooks a beatiful forest with a stream where trout can be caught. Our kids loved the stream being able to wade and walk along the stream of course wearing water shoes. The other great feature of HHaway is that it is within a 10 minute drive to Ricketts Glenn State Park where you will find the most scenic waterfalls and challenging hiking- but its all worth it.
....and of course to top it all off is your gracious hosts- Rich and Marie. These two folks think about everything to make your stay quite comfortable including charcoal briquets for the new BQ grill to grill your favorite steak. I also had the pleasure of meeting Paul- their son who stopped by one evening to talk about conservation of the land and how proud he was of all of the hard work that was accomplished to offer such a great place in honor of Herbie.

It was so nice to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city life. The only noise you heard was the soothing
sound of the creek running behind the house and the sounds of nature. We were lucky enough to see wild turkey
going right across the lane to the house. Something the boys would never see in the city. It was so relaxing and
a great place to spend quality family time. In this busy world we live in it is often difficult to slow down.
The location of the house was very peaceful and relaxing. We went to Richter's Glen State Park and that was a
very clean and nice recreation area. Thanks for the recommendation!
The family enjoyed the vacation spot so much that we wish we had more time available to stay longer.
We hope to be able to come back in the near future.

Marie and Rick, thanks for such a great vacation ! We wanted a place convenient to Rickets' Glen, and we got
that and more! The rooms are clean and spacious and the beds very comfortable. The kitchen is unusually large, as
is the family room - but we were hardly indoors, as we enjoyed our evenings outdoors at our campfire. You even are
thoughtful enough to provide all the extras - like bandaids (we didn't need any), shampoo, and various condiments
in the kitchen, not to mention comfortable outdoor chairs, firewood, charcoal, and more. All in a beautiful,
serene and private setting.
Ricketts' Glen state park is very, very close, and provided spectacular views and both easy and challenging
hiking. Coming "home" at the end of the day to Herbies Hideaway was a pleasure. I wish we had stayed longer than
just 3 days. There is more to explore right there in the creek, and well as the general area. Of course, Ricketts
Glen park also provides more trails and activities than we could do in just a few days.

We really enjoyed our weekend getaway to Herbie's Hideaway. It was so peaceful and relaxing. Just wish our stay was longer. We will definitely be back. It's really a home away from home. We enjoyed our time around the house just as much as our visits to nearby Ricketts Glen State Park. The night sky was amazing...hard to believe those stars are there all the time (we just don't get to see them at home). We had a wonderful time! Thanks for everything.

My Husband and I couldn't have stumbled on a more perfect place to recharge ourselves.
This house is nestled in the woods for absolute privacy and has a stunning view of Huntington
Creek, where we observed several pair of Wood Ducks from the kitchen window every day.
Everything is clean and well maintained, and there are books and puzzles in case of a rainy
day. All of the rooms, particularly the kitchen and bathroom, are very spacious, and Marie and
Rich have thoughtfully included many modern amenities. After our long days of hiking we
really enjoyed coming back to the house to enjoy the scenery and the tranquility in comfort.
As secluded as Herbie's Hideaway is, it is located a very short distance from the
gorgeous Ricketts Glen State Park, and centrally located to other hiking destinations, such as
World's End and Nescopeck State Park. If Antiques are your thing, the Mountain View Barn
Antique Shop is also very close.
We highly recommend Herbie's Hideaway, and will definitely be looking forward to
returning. Marie and Rich are most gracious hosts, and see to it that all your needs are met.
It is very rare to find such a wonderful treasure without spending a fortune!

REVIEW:
My boyfriend and I rented out Herbie's Hideaway for the week of New Years 2008 with a few of our friends. We had an incredible time. We found the cabin to be very spacious, well-kept, and very clean upon our arrival. Marie and Rich made sure that anything we would need during our stay-- from firewood to dishes to hand soap were there for our use. They really thought of everything and were very accommodating. The group of us had a great time-- every afternoon we lit a campfire in one of the fire pits for roasting marshmallows and making s'mores. We cooked dinner outside every night on the grill or the campfire too. During the day we spent time hiking with our dogs in the surrounding woods. We also took a few trips to Glen Ricketts Park to hike on the trails or take in the beautiful view of the waterfall. My boyfriend and I (and our friends) would definitely recommend a stay at Herbie's Hideaway to anyone looking to get away from it all, enjoy nature, and roast a few marshmallows :) It was a great vacation. Marie and Rich are extremely thoughtful and sweet. We would absolutely stay at Herbie's Hideaway again.

We recently rented Herbie's Hideaway over the holiday with our friends and we would just like to tell you what a great experience it was. We live in the area, but wanted to spend a few days in the outdoors with our friends and this was the perfect location. We frequent Rickett's Glen during all seasons and you can't go wrong with a visit and hike there any time of the year. We, however, chose to stay right on the property and enjoy it. We didn't need to leave. The location is just perfect with the stream and forest to explore. We hiked the trails and along the Huntington Creek and it was just beautiful. Being that it was cold and we are outdoor people, we enjoyed our nights by the fire pit, which was stocked with plenty of wood. It was large enough for all eight of us to comfortably sit around and enjoy the warmth.
Herbie's itself was spotless, although we spent very little time in the house. We are very big cooks and bakers and the kitchen could use a few more baking supplies (pans, measuring cups, measuring spoons, ect.) but other than that, the kitchen provided our more than one cook families to comfortably move around and prepare all meals while enjoying spending time together.
Since Herbies is pet friendly, our friends were able to bring their dog, which is a part of both of our families and that just added to our enjoyment. Having to leave a pet home just takes something away from a vacation for us. It turns out that when it was time to leave, she did not want to get in their vehicle. It was actually funny. We think she may have had the best time of all.
Overall we would recommend Herbie's to any outdoor lovers. Great location, privacy and spotlessly clean.
